I combine hands-on experience as a senior manager and organisational development specialist, with theoretical knowledge and extensive international experience.
I’m committed to supporting people to realise their own potential, develop others and meet their personal and business ambitions. I like to build long term, trusting relationships with clients so I have a sound understanding of the business goals and context.
I’m clear about what I can offer, and where you have a need that is outside my areas of expertise I’ll work with you to find and manage the most appropriate, alternative solution.
My background is in senior operational leadership in all three sectors; business, public and not-for-profit. I started my career managing a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. After several years and a huge amount of learning I returned to the UK where I was a senior manager in the travel industry.
In these roles I was constantly leading teams through change. This involved diverse endeavours such as business development, transforming organisational culture, implementing management processes, and supporting colleagues with their skills and career development.
I am passionate about supporting managers to work with their teams in a way that achieves the goals of the organisation, while allowing the members of that team to personally grow and achieve ‘professional mastery’. This led me to study for my MSc. in People and Organisational Development.
In order to bring together my international perspective, academic study and leadership skills, I then went to work for Oxfam where I began by focussing on leadership and management development. This led me to initiate Oxfam’s work to develop a culture of coaching where I was able to combine my expertise as a qualified coach with my experience in effecting organisation wide change.
I spent my last 5 years in Oxfam as the Head of the Learning and Organisational Development, working with leaders to design and implement change programmes across the 50-plus countries where Oxfam works. I was able to consolidate this experience while studying for the rigorous NTL Certificate in Organisational Development.
My Support Team
On large or complex projects I work with a small number of hand-picked Associates who are all experts in their particular field. If your projects requires a team approach then I’ll introduce you to the people who I think will be the best fit for your needs.
As part of my own continuing professional development I work with a supervisor on a regular basis. This helps me to test new ideas and continue to develop professionally.
